Christmas is a State of Mind

               Christmas is on the coming of God our Father’s Son, Jesus Christ into our world for us to save from our sins and shame. It is not on the giving of gifts from one another.  It is not also on the Christmas lights, Christmas trees or other Christmas decors we might have.  But in fact, it is the day where Jesus was born and we must cherish it all the way.

          That’s why they say, give love on Christmas day.  But for me, we can do it every day.  We can love one another even if it’s not December 25.  We could also forgive people from their sins even if it’s not Christmas.  The date doesn’t any matter at all. I just don’t know why other people have those kinds of beliefs.

          Let us all humble ourselves in the eyes of God just as His Son Jesus came into our midst in the humility of a manger where animals were kept with no comfortable mattress on His back.

Gender Equality Is Good For Health

            Last March 2012, the theme for the International Women’s Day Celebration was “Equal Rights, Equal Opportunities; Progress for All.”  In here, gender equality must really being implemented and observed by every single person to improve health issues for women.   After all, progress will be ours.

          Discrimination towards women is what we call a gender-based discrimination.  It is one of the human rights violations. It strictly limits the ability of women and the community they live in to protect and promote their health.  Gender-based discrimination also limits the attainment of international health and development goals.

          So, for a better situation of our lives, we must all be free from gender discrimination for we are all born with equal rights and equal opportunities.  What matters now is being able to attain UNITY for us to build a strong, efficient and progressive society.  Ladies and gentlemen, let us all work together and let us make the best that we can in everything that we do.  Let us all make sure that we are doing the right thing and not the other way around.

Climate Change

Climate change is the increase in the average temperature of the Earth’s atmosphere, oceans and land masses. Greenhouse gases are heat trapping gases which causes the rapid warming of the Earth. This is due to human activities such as burning of fossil fuels, plastics, using perfumes and many more.  For this scenario, more and more greenhouse gases are added to the atmosphere and acts like thickening blanket which trap heat from the Sun provided to the Earth, known as the process of greenhouse effect.

The earth has warmed and cooled many times since its formation about 4.6 billion years ago. A climate change is also due to many natural factors like massive volcanic eruptions, which increased carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. These occurrences threaten the earth for the next 50 years. As years passed by, global temperature increases. If this phenomenon continues, all of us will be affected. Study shows that ice of the North Pole and South Pole is melting because of too much heat entering into the earth’s surface. Researchers predicted that after 50 years, if the temperature continues to rise, polar ice and glaciers will be totally melted and would be erased on the map of the world. This will cause the expansion of ocean volumes and sea level which will flood some coastal regions and even entire islands including the Philippines. Too much heat will occur and different diseases would come out such as heat strokes and skin diseases that may possible to a lead of cancerous disease.

Responding to the challenge of controlling global warming will require fundamental changes in transportation, health and industry. The possible solution to prevent global warming is to reduce the emission of greenhouse gases like reducing the consumption of fossil fuels. The other is through carbon capture. Through these, we can save our planet from danger.

Second Grading Was Probably The Most Interesting!

            Learning the basic HTML was really a new world for me; new world for discoveries.  You can just imagine how people made those web pages for us to have a source of information.  Are you not encouraged to explore and try making things like those?

            During those seven hands-on activities we have had, problems like the slow internet connection, typing incorrect mark-up tags and finding time to finish all those seven exer’s were encountered. All of those were just typical especially for students like us who has a lot of requirements to accomplish for the other subjects. But still, we find ways to solve them one-by- one.

            What I did is to just work on the exer’s in school and for the blogs; I’ll just do them at home.  But if ever I have extra time, I’ll just take it to work on my blogs as I am waiting for the time.  The very important value, TIME MANAGEMENT was probably the main solution to my own problem so that I will be able to finish my requirements all on time.

            Moving on, I will make my own web design and will help other people for their researchers soon in the future. Through this, I will not just be able to explore things I haven’t known yet but also to help other people to have a source of information on a certain topic or information. And this will be a great thanks to my educators for without them, I will not be able to know any little knowledge on web designing.

The Real Peace-Maker

English Proficiency is the ability to speak, read and write English.  To be considered as truly proficient, we should have an advanced skill on this.

           English nowadays is considered as the universal language, right?  Well for us to communicate to those people in other countries, we have to speak in English so that they will understand what we are trying to tell them.  We should thank the creator and founder of this English Language for it serves as a peace-making body of all the nations.

         For this month of October, we do celebrate English Olympics with the theme, “Upholding English Proficiency for Communicative Competence.”  Through this occasion, we can develop and enhance our communication skills with the use of English language.  Joining contest’s like jazz chants, quiz bee, reader’s theatre, smart talk, essay writing, etc. would really be a helpful technique to learn English language efficiently.

            Therefore we, not only the Filipinos but all over the world who are using this very evident language, must work hand-in-hand and together, we must try to use it wherever we are.  Let us use English language as a way of communication.  The challenge is with us, LET US POROMOTE AND UPHOLD ENGLISH PROFICIENCY for the betterment of our lives.

SCIENTRICITY: Energizing Science Clubbers for Sustainable Energy

          For this month of September, we celebrate the National Science Club Month.  This year 2012, we have “Scientricity: Energizing Science Clubbers for Sustainable Energy” as its theme.

                As to my own understanding about these phrases, they want everyone to become more relevant to prevalent issues of science, technology and environment.  They want to increase youth’s awareness in the significance of sustainability and energy.  And for more understandings, sustainability is somewhat like maintenance and of course, energy is the capacity to do work.

               It will not only present practical applications and theories in the concepts of sustainable energy.  It will also challenge the science clubbers both mentally and physically.  This is through fun and educational lectures, workshops, team-building activities and contests.

           In fact, here in Ilocos Sur national High School we do have also a lot of activities regarding this National Science Club Month.  Some of these were science quiz, slogan making contest, poster slogan making contest, extemporaneous speaking and the “Ginoo at Bb. Kalikasan”.  Through conducting activities like this, students become more caring to their surroundings.

               Having those, were really very helpful in molding not only our minds but also ones’ self-confidence.  It is really a big help to our environment especially that our theme is about energy. In which we must maintain, care and love as well.

My Teacher, My Hero

                 A teacher plays a very important role in molding young minds.  Whatever they utters and does are of meaning to the learners.

                For me, I admire very much the patience and sacrifices of teachers.  They do things which are incomparable.  Their homes are even extensions of the school.  It is because they bring home unfinished school work. At home, still household chores are waiting for them.  They make sure that everything is in order before leaving for school.

                They sleep late at night in making lesson plans and wake up early in the morning to prepare thing for their family.  Their work is unlimited. Sometimes they even do community services but never that they neglect their duties and responsibilities at home and in school.  We really bow our heads to our educators. They deserved to be called our “HEROES”.

                Everyone is remembered with the good deeds done to others and you are one of them ma’am.  Words are not enough to express our thanks for having you as our mentors.  You had a great influence and for this, we treasure every learning that we get from you ma’am- whether lessons academically or lessons in life.

                Whenever you’re in front of us teaching, you smiles, kind and gentle words inspire us more to listen and bring the best in us. We enjoyed your class very much for the every activity that we had were very challenging and most importantly, you were always there to guide us.  The way you treated everyone fairly, made us more confident in you.  Ma’am you are a true role model to students for you have the qualities of a good teacher.

                Many students will still pass through your hands and for sure you’ll also touch their lives.  Thank you ma’am, you’re such a nice and wonderful teacher.

My Most Valuable Parents

Parents play a very important role in every child’s life.  Their guidance is such a great responsibility on their part.  As a daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Expedito Abinoja, I realized that becoming a parent is hard.

For the past fifteen years, they have been doing a lot of things not just for me but also for our family.  They really have given a lot of sacrifices- supporting all the needs of our family.  They don’t even have time to fixed up their selves and enjoy life.  With that reason, I idolized them so much for that wonderful or special quality they have.

As a fifteen year-old student, I do believe that my parents deserve to be called my HERO whether for a reason, a season or a lifetime.  They really have proven it not just once but often times.  I am so lucky to have a parents like them- MY MOST VALUABLE PARENTS.

All Of Us Must Take The RISK and RESPONSIBILITY

Language sets a great responsibility to our communication.  We cannot express our feelings on a specific thing without this.

                In celebration for the “Buwan ng Wika” here in the Philippines, Filipinos must know how to care, love and value our own language.  For this year’s theme, “Tatag ng Wikang Filipino, Lakas ng Pagka-Filipino,” it says that, we the Filipinos must be working as one and that UNITY is just our main goal and no other else.  In everything we do, we must always practice to have it.  We must always be as one big happy family.

                Loving our own language, which is Filipino, must be shown in such a way that we have to use it with all our hearts and use it as good as possible. We must have to give respect to our great heroes by simply using it properly and responsibly, without any bad intentions.

                To my countrymen- the Filipinos, do you really know the essence of our language?  The challenge is with us. We must really think on what to do.  Let us not waste time.  If we could do it today, then we must work for it.  Let us change for the betterment of our lives.

IGNORANCE Turns to a GREAT PERFORMANCE

  
              At the very start of our lesson, I don’t have any knowledge about blogs- on how to create blogs and how to manipulate blogs. I was so ignorant before on what to do with these things. But through Mrs. Evelyn Vera Cruz, our ICT teacher, I have learned all of those. I know now how to execute this social networking site.

                When we had our first hands-on activity, we first made our account. I had so many trials then because I got a problemon verifying through text and call on my phone.  Sometimes there was traffic on the connection and sometimes I got the wrong verification code.  But then, I was able to create my account in Blogger.

                Instead also of making a post after making a blog entitled Lara Mae, I made another blog.  When I saw the work of my classmate, I came to realize that I made a wrong one.  I should have made a post on my blog Lara Mae and not to create another blog for my letter to the President.  What I did next is that I deleted my blog entitled “Letter to the President” and make a post on my blog entitled “Lara Mae” to make my work on blog correct.

                Moving on, I will continue using this social networking site because I find it interesting.  Although there are a lot of social networking sites there, I will always use this one.  I will encourage my friends to use this for communication purposes.  This site is really great and wonderful.

PNOY Blames The Past Administration

Last Monday, July 23, 2012, President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III delivered his third State of the Nation Address (SONA) at the Batasang Pambansa, Quezon City.

There, PNOY lauded that in the first quarter of 2012, our Gross Domestic Product (GDP) grew by 6.4 % much higher than projected, the highest growth in Southeast Asian region and the second only to China in the whole of Asia.  He also talked about the other programs he was able to implement and the programs still to be implemented.  These include the anti- poverty campaign through the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4P’s), health programs, jobs and services, K-12 Education Program, Infrastructure Projects, Tourism, Agriculture, Energy Sector, Mining Industry, Disaster Risk Reduction and Management and the reducing of crime volume here in our country.

                But just like the past SONA of the President, healways give negative comments on the work or the accomplishments of the past administration which I do not like the most.  He must forget it now and just do his own duties and responsibilities very well.  He must stop blaming President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo now and just prove to our countrymen what he could do.

Let us All Observe Health Consciousness

          Whether or not you find pleasure in eating food, the fact still remains that food is a basic human need.  Good health is impossible without good nutrition.  Interesting, sick people today have food-related problems.
           Food, the very vehicle of health and life-giving nutrients may be underused, overused, abused or misused. This results in some form of sicknesses. Used properly, food is an indispensable part of many treatment plans. God has been very gracious to have given us food which can help build up and restore health.

          This July, we celebrate our nutrition month with the theme "Pagkain ng Gulay Ugaliin, Araw-araw Itong Ihain".  There it states that we must eat vegetables every time so that we will be having a better healthy lifestyle.  In that way, being free from different diseases will be achieved so easily.
          So let us be vegetarian because there is no bad effect about it.  Let us consider the benefits of the food every time we eat and don't just keep on eating without knowing their benefits.  Let us all observe health consciousness.

Letter to the President

Dear President Aquino,

          Hello sir, I am Lara Mae Abinoja, a student of Ilocos Sur National High School, Vigan City, Ilocos Sur.  I wrote a letter for you because I idolized you. you are indeed a great leader to our countrymen.  You have given great importance to every youth's education.

          One thing to prove that is the implementation of the K-12 education program which had just started this school year.  Many parents are complaining about it because they thought it was just an additional financial problem for them.  But then they don't consider on its advantage in which they can start working after finishing the 12 grades of both elementary and secondary level.  It was just like they had taken their vocational courses in this type of education.  And that is just one reason why I like the way you ha had given importance to our education.

             For that, I salute you sir!  Thank you for being our president.  I hope you'll continue what you had started.  Have a nice day sir!  God Bless.
